Planning permission advice.
Alterations and extensions to your existing house may require planning permission from your local council planning department.
However, some house extensions do not require planning permission.
Planning Permission may not be needed:
If the extension is not closer to any roads than the original property, or if it is least 20 metres away from such road. This would include any public right of way and bridle paths or footpaths.
If less than half of the original amount of land around the house is covered by additional buildings.
If the proposed extension is not higher than the original house.
If the volume of the house is not increased by more than 15%, or increased by less than 115 cubic metres.
If the extension is not not affecting the roof of the original house.
